Course Description:

If you've thought about making diving your life or maybe just reducing the cost of your holidays then becoming a Divemaster is the first step.  You will work closely with your instructors to expand your diving skills and knowledge to a Divemaster level, following them as they lead other courses.  Then, in the most fulfilling part of the DMT programme, you'll learn and practice supervising diving activities and assisting with student training.  You will also experience first-hand the day to day job of a Divemaster.

  • Advanced Adventurer certification (including night and limited visibility, deep and navigation dives)
  • Stress and Rescue certification for occupational diving
  • Dive Guide certification
  • Science of diving certification
  • All materials (manuals & slates)
  • Internationally recognised certification cards
  • SSI Membership fee
  • Boat dives and vessel transfers (where applicable)
  • Tanks, weights and air fills


Our Divemaster program takes you on an adventure of The Great Barrier Reef, just out of Cairns, North Queensland.  We have opportunities for underwater photography experience and full orientation of tourism vessels heading out to the outer reefs and also to the National Park of the Frankland Islands Group.  This 90 day intensive and informative program will kick-start your career as a Dive Professional and will provide you with valuable skills from our leading SSI Instructors and trainers.  You'll learn and practice supervising diving activities and assisting with student training.  You will also experience first-hand the day to day job of a Divemaster.

We also have opportunities for further development at our Queenscliff store in Victoria; where you can experience cold water diving, technical training and wreck diving!

For those participating in the Divemaster program, Scubabo can offer a once in a lifetime experience filled with fun and adventure.  We can also offer discounted rates on Mares dive gear and further development of continuing education through SSI.


Prerequisites:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Own a Total Diving System of professional type and quality
  • Have a current medical exam for scuba diving not older than 1 year and signed by a licensed medical practitioner
  • Be certified as an active Dive Guide level or equivalent

Certification & Active Status Requirements:

  • Have completed a Dive Guide program and the Science of Diving Specialty program or equivalent
  • Maintain proof of current training in First Aid/CPR/O2 & AED
  • Comply with all annual Renewal procedures
  • Maintain Professional Liability Insurance (where applicable)
  • Work through an active SSI Dive Centre or SSI Dive Resort
  • Pass a watermanship and skill evaluation if one has not been passed in the last 12 months


Qualification:

After certification Divemasters may do the following:
  • Perform in the same role as a Dive Guide
  • Assist SSI Instructors with pool/confined water and open water training under direct supervision
  • Meet the criteria to act as a Certified Assistant
