Take your diving down to 40 metres, safely.


The SSI Deep Diving Specialty gives you the skills to safely and comfortably conduct dives to a maximum depth of 40m. Many divers build up to Deep Diving after rounding out their skills with the Advanced Open Water Diver program. 

You'll learn how to plan a deep dive safely, recognise the risks specific to depth, and understand your total diving system. You'll earn the SSI Deep Diving Specialty certification on completion.

Mandatory personal gear: you'll need your own torch, SMB and reel for this course. Mask, snorkel, fins, gloves and boots are also on you, same as our other courses. Buy what you need through the Extras tab during booking, or in person on Day 1.



How the course runs

2 days (approx.). Home study, in-water training to a maximum depth of 40m, across 3 open-water dives.

 This course needs a minimum of 4 students to commence.

Start times can vary.



Who can do this course

  • Minimum age 15 (a parent's or guardian's consent is required for participants under 18 years old, consistent with our other courses)
  • Must already hold an Open Water Diver certification or higher

A dive medical check may be required if you:

  • Struggle to perform moderate exercise — for example, walk 1.6km (one mile) in 14 minutes, or swim 200m without resting — or have been unable to take part in normal physical activity due to fitness or health reasons within the past 12 months, or

  • Have had surgery within the last 12 months, or have ongoing problems related to past surgery, or

  • Are taking prescription medications (except birth control, or anti-malarial drugs other than mefloquine/Lariam)

If you fall into one of these categories, we can email you the Medical Questionnaire so you can review it before booking and have it signed by a physician before your course date.
