Some of the ocean's most amazing creatures only come out after dark — this course teaches you how to dive safely and comfortably at night or in limited visibility, so your day of diving doesn't have to end when the sun goes down. You'll learn how to enter and exit the water in the dark, use specialised equipment, and communicate and stay with your buddy when you can't rely on daylight. You'll earn the SSI Night Diving and Limited Visibility Specialty certification on completion.

Mandatory personal gear: you'll need your own torch, compass and SMB for this course — a secondary backup torch is highly recommended. Mask, snorkel, fins, gloves and boots are also on you, same as our other courses. Buy what you need through the Extras tab during booking, or in person on Day 1.



How the course runs

This course runs across an academic session plus 2 ocean dives.

This course needs a minimum of 4 students to commence.

Start times can vary. 



Who can do this course

  • Minimum age 10 (a parent's or guardian's consent is required for participants under 18 years old, consistent with our other courses)
  • Must already hold an Open Water Diver certification or higher

A dive medical check may be required if you:

  • Struggle to perform moderate exercise — for example, walk 1.6km (one mile) in 14 minutes, or swim 200m without resting — or have been unable to take part in normal physical activity due to fitness or health reasons within the past 12 months, or

  • Have had surgery within the last 12 months, or have ongoing problems related to past surgery, or

  • Are taking prescription medications (except birth control, or anti-malarial drugs other than mefloquine/Lariam)
