Try Scuba / Scuba Experience

Breathe underwater. No experience, no commitment.

This is your first breath underwater — in a pool, with an instructor right beside you the whole time. No certification required beforehand, no gear to buy. Just book and see what diving actually feels like.

You'll earn an SSI Try Scuba recognition rating, and if you love it (most people do), it counts toward your next step: our full Open Water Diver Certification.

What's included

Literally everything. Unlike our certification courses, there's no gear you need to bring or buy — Try Scuba is the one course where the cost covers all diving equipment, full stop.

How the session runs

One session: a short introductory talk about how scuba works, then straight into the pool for your first taste of breathing underwater with an instructor.

This course needs a minimum of 4 students to commence.

Start times can vary.

Who can do this

• Minimum age 8 (a parent's or guardian's consent is required for participants under 18 years old — same as our Open Water courses)

A dive medical check may be required if you:

• Struggle to perform moderate exercise — for example, walk 1.6km (one mile) in 14 minutes, or swim 200m without resting — or have been unable to take part in normal physical activity due to fitness or health reasons within the past 12 months, or

• Have had surgery within the last 12 months, or have ongoing problems related to past surgery, or

• Are taking prescription medications (except birth control, or anti-malarial drugs other than mefloquine/Lariam)

None of this is unusual — it's a standard part of learning to dive safely. If you fall into one of these categories, we can email you the attached Medical Questionnaire so you can review it before booking and have it signed by a physician before your course date.
