Know exactly where you are, and how to get back.

This course teaches you the skills and concepts to navigate confidently and comfortably underwater. You'll learn to use a compass and natural navigation techniques, run basic navigation patterns, and reliably leave and return to a designated point on any dive. You'll earn the SSI Navigation Specialty certification on completion.

What's included

  • BCD, regulator, tank, weights and wetsuit hire
  • 2 ocean dive

Mandatory personal gear: you'll need your own compass, SMB and reel for this course. Mask, snorkel, fins, gloves and boots are also on you, same as our other courses. Buy what you need through the Extras tab during booking, or in person on Day 1.

How the course runs

1 day (approx.): academic and practical sessions while staying dry, then out for 2 open-water navigation dives.

This course needs a minimum of 4 students to commence.

Start times can vary.

Who can do this course

  • Minimum age 10 (a parent's or guardian's consent is required for participants under 18 years old, consistent with our other courses)
  • Must already hold an Open Water Diver certification or higher

A dive medical check may be required if you:

  • Struggle to perform moderate exercise — for example, walk 1.6km (one mile) in 14 minutes, or swim 200m without resting — or have been unable to take part in normal physical activity due to fitness or health reasons within the past 12 months, or

  • Have had surgery within the last 12 months, or have ongoing problems related to past surgery, or

  • Are taking prescription medications (except birth control, or anti-malarial drugs other than mefloquine/Lariam)

If you fall into one of these categories, we can email you the Medical Questionnaire so you can review it before booking and have it signed by a physician before your course date.
