Dive Guide Course

Course Description:

This program gives you the skills and experience required to safely lead groups of certified divers, and is the first step towards an exciting career as an SSI Dive Professional without requiring you to complete an instructor program.  Professional Dive Guides can work for SSI Dive Centres, guiding dives in a variety of environments and conditions.  You will earn the SSI Dive Guide certification after completing this program.

Prerequisites

• Minimum 15 years old
• 50 logged Dives
• Current occupational dive medical (AS2299.1) issued by an accredited SPUMS doctor.*** 
• Current (within 24 months) First Aid, CPR and Oxygen Provider certificates**

• Diver Stress & Rescue
• Navigation
• Night & Limited Visibility
• Deep Diving (Deeper than 30 meters)

** You can still participate in the course without these, however you must get them to be certified.
** We can assist you with obtaining First Aid, CPR & Oxygen Provider through our training centre 

*** If you are working or taking an SSI Professional course in Australia, you cannot just use a standard recreational doctor's sign-off. Workplace health and safety laws dictate that you must hold a valid AS/NZS 2299.1 occupational dive medical issued by an accredited SPUMS doctor.  Registered doctors can be found here: https://spums.au/index.php/diving-doctors-list

To protect your investment and ensure your safety, please complete your dive medical before your course begins. If you choose to start your training without a valid medical clearance and later discover you cannot pass, we cannot guarantee a refund or cover any financial losses you may incur.

Certification & Active Status Requirements:

• Have completed the following Specialty programs or equivalent: Equipment Techniques, Night Diving, Boat Diving, Deep Diving, Navigation, Nitrox, and Stress and Rescue.
• Logged no less than 50 open water dives totalling 32 hours or more.
• Maintain proof of current training in First Aid & CPR.
• Maintain proof of being competent in emergency administration of oxygen.  This shall include knowledge of the medical principles involved and practical use of an emergency oxygen unit.
• Display leadership behaviours as well as passing all requirements listed in the program curriculum.
• Serve apprenticeship time
• Perform all diver skills and open water rescues
• Pass a watermanship evaluation.
• Pass a final exam with a minimum score of 90%.
• Comply with all annual Renewal procedures.
• Maintain Professional Liability Insurance (where applicable).
• Work through an active SSI Dive Centre or SSI Dive Resort.

Inclusions:

• Tank hire and or air fills
• Excludes cost of dive medical, SSI Professional fees and Boat dives.
• Excludes equipment hire, except for tank

Course Schedule & Upgrades:

The number of classes, hours and sessions per day are set by the individual Instructor, based on student
needs, student ability and ocean conditions.  The approximate time required to complete is 40 hours or 7 days. A 5-Dive Boat Card can be purchased at a discounted rate for use on boat dives.
