Waves, Tides and Currents

Water doesn't sit still. Learn to dive with it, not against it.

Water motion changes everything about a dive — this program gives you the skills and knowledge to dive confidently from shore, in currents, and in different wave conditions. You'll earn the SSI Waves, Tides and Currents Specialty certification on completion.

What's included

• SSI training materials and fees
• BCD, regulator, tank and weights hire
• 2 ocean dives

How the course runs

1 day (approx.): academic sessions, with the option to upgrade to ocean dives.

This course needs a minimum of 4 students to commence.

Start times can vary.

Who can do this course

• Minimum age 10

• Must already hold an Open Water Diver certification or higher

A dive medical check may be required if you:

• Struggle to perform moderate exercise — for example, walk 1.6km (one mile) in 14 minutes, or swim 200m without resting — or have been unable to take part in normal physical activity due to fitness or health reasons within the past 12 months, or

• Have had surgery within the last 12 months, or have ongoing problems related to past surgery, or

• Are taking prescription medications (except birth control, or anti-malarial drugs other than mefloquine/Lariam)
